| A QUICK LOOK AT THE LOUISVILLE FORUM |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() The Louisville Forum has become known as the preeminent nonpartisan issues group for the Louisville metropolitan area. Founded in 1984, the Forum was created to promote the discussion of community issues and to improve decision making through heightened awareness, education, and involvement of the community. As an independent organization, the Forum never takes a position on issues. However, we bring together speakers who aggressively articulate their specific and often opposing viewpoints. Since its founding, the Louisville Forum has held monthly meetings to discuss wide-ranging matters of public interest, covering economic, political, environmental, health, and social issues. Members and guests receive firsthand information from community and industry figures - business leaders, elected officials, industry experts - those responsible for shaping Louisville's future. MEETINGS Meetings are held over lunch on the second Wednesday of each month at a central downtown location, usually Vincenzo's restaurant. Guests are welcome to attend Louisville Forum meetings with or without a sponsor, although membership is encouraged. Typically, multiple speakers are invited to each meeting to provide differing perspectives on a specific issue. Following their presentations, the speakers field questions from the audience. On occasion individual speakers are invited to discuss a topic of timely interest. Past Forum guest panelists have included Senator Mitch McConnell; Senator Wendell Ford; Mayor Jerry Abramson; John Hall, Chairman, Ashland Oil, Inc.; Sharon Darling, President of the National Center for Family Literacy; Helen Thomas, Chief White House Correspondent for United Press International. In February, the Forum holds its annual meeting at which it bestows its Fleur-de-Lis Award to a local citizen who, in the Board's opinion, merits recognition for having made outstanding contributions to the community. Visit the Louisville Forum F.A.Q. page for more info. BOARD OF DIRECTORS The Louisville Forum is run by a 16-member board of directors (plus the past president, who sits ex officio non-voting). Elections are held at the annual meeting in February, and each director sits for a two-year term. Officers are selected by the board members. Current officers and directors are: Barbara Albert, President Directors Bob Schulman Ed Henson Dot Ridings Travis Frick Barbara Albert Jeff Barr Greg Mayes Bobby Simpson Emily Zeitman Kevin Barrett Joseph F. Marks Steve Ford Lori Riddle-Eberenz Sandy Richardson Bob Braverman Christopher A. Hudson |
